In recent years, the Constitutional Court of Ecuador has played a significant role in the protection of liberty and due process en many different contexts. This panel adresses some of the Court’s contributions to the understanding and exercise of those rights in difficult and unexpected situations. Speakers will reflect on the following issues: 1) The resignification of habeas corpus in the recent case-law of the Constitutional Court of Ecuador – 2) The abuse of the state of exception figure and its constitutional review: the Ecuadorian social rehabilitation system – 3) The interpretation and application of remand provisions in habeas corpus cases in Ecuador – and 3) Three lessons on abortion for global public law.
