Citizens‘ participation and trust on official institutions in Latin America: methodological challenges (Spanish)
Taking into consideration the last demonstrations of unhappiness in a series of Latin American countries, there is a need to analyse the options and spaces for participation that exists in the current institutions and which allows both the legitimation of such mechanism of expression and the institutions that support them. This gives us the opportunity to discuss the theoretical and methodological issues, such as how to research the level of trust that citizens have towards different institutions, how to identify the variety of reasons that impact their level of participation, and how much do they know regarding the means to express themselves and make their voices heard. In this discussion, the purpose is to address ideas, point out solutions and consider practices that allow dealing with both ethical and practical concerns in the development of this topic.
