SUMMARY:The European Central Bank as a political actor
DESCRIPTION:The ECB is today a de facto distinct institution from the one created by the Maastricht Treaty 30 years ago. Retaining in essence its ‘technocratic’ character\, its actions have undoubtedly had a political significance and salience that was possibly not envisaged at the time of its creation\, especially since the outbreak of the economic crisis and during the pandemic. This panel will examine the kind of political character that the ECB‘s actions had\, the extent to which this political character is distinct\, and the extent to which it unsettles the formal allocation of competences between the European Monetary Union and its Member States.
