SUMMARY:The Economic and Monetary Union after COVID: Changing paradigms and future prospects
DESCRIPTION:The ambition of this panel is to take stock of the reforms implemented in the EU in the economic and monetary realm in reaction to the COVID-19 crisis\, and to reflect on their meaning for the long-term trajectory of integration in the Economic and Monetary Union. We further aim to reflect on the way these reforms\, whether already effectuated (the recovery plan) or currently discussed (e.g.\, the reform of the EU fiscal rules)\, could or should pave the way for a deeper restructuring of the EU‘s economic architecture so that it be rendered not only more resilient and economically/socially sustainable but also more democratic. The panel examines the key economic and fiscal challenges Europe will be confronted with in the coming years\, and reflects on the responses EU (public) law can provide. In doing so\, it very well fits with the overall theme of this year‘s ICON conference.
