SUMMARY:rusting UN machinery to support better access to economic\, social and cultural rights among states towards indigenous groups
DESCRIPTION:This panel invites the audience to critique and evaluate the role of the United Nations( UN) in assisting the progressive realisation of economic\, cultural and social rights (IESCR). It assesses the level of trust or conversely distrust a global public can repose in the UN for the oversight of state obligations towards realisation of IESCR\, particularly towards indigenous groups. Two members of this panel\, Regina Paulose and Narissa Ramsundar prepared a report on the access of IESCR rights towards indigenous groups in Asia. The report\, “ Catalysts for Change- IESCR among Indigenous groups in Asia“ was presented at the Human Rights Council (HRC)\, Geneva on the 2nd March 2020. This report forms the point of departure for the discussion of the panel on the issue of trust and distrust for the UN as the primary global organ for oversight of the IESCR realisation towards indigenous groups. The panel will present the undermentioned papers.
