SUMMARY:Illiberalism in some CEE states
DESCRIPTION:There is a disagreement on whether illiberalism is a (coherent) theory\, a new ideological family\, it is only a connected set of values\, or whether it is not at all a theory but only a set of abusive practices the understanding of which does not need any theory at all. Against this background and given that CEE states share common historical and cultural heritage\, and have been experiencing the emergence of illiberalism\, this panel intends to discuss how illiberalism manifests and is perceived in different states while drawing on the observation that Orbán‘s regime is the most fully developed illiberal democracy\, even if it seems to be more pragmatic than narrowly ideological. The panelists will discuss the illiberal potential of their polity\, its link to the constitutional identity\, and concepts of sovereignty and nation\, the different illiberal movements and practices and their effect on the political and constitutional regime\, and many others.
