SUMMARY:Freedom of assembly: facing historical challenges and threats of the present
DESCRIPTION:Freedom of assembly belongs to the constitutional essentials of the democratic states and\, as such is taken for granted. The dominant belief accompanies this that assembly freedom`s historical in democracies is quite linear and directed towards its extension (i.e.\, including women) and securing in institutional guarantees (judicial oversight). However\, in our view\, there are still long-standing vacuums requiring further research. Conceptual and historical perspectives contribute to a better understanding of the origin and purpose of freedom of assemblies. The panellists will also refer to the conceptual\, dogmatic-normative\, and practical levels in a post-transformation era in Hungary & Poland\, identifying\, i.e.\, known challenges and new threats related to illiberal tendencies and crises such as the global Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore\, the panellists will attempt to answer whether a practice meets the ideal of freedom and stays within its institutional guaranties.
