SUMMARY:Constitutionalism Beyond Liberalism
DESCRIPTION:The crisis of constitutional democracy\, as it were\, has led to an outpouring of scholarship on the means by which traditional institutions and norms have\, in several countries across the world\, been compromised. This panel will consider how constitutional systems that are not centered on liberal values are structured. What institutions exist in such systems\, and what precise role do they play? What role\, if any\, does the rule of law play in such societies? How we do think about the idea of “constitutionalism“ when it is separated from the concepts associated with liberalism? What insights about normative and/or institutional design arrangements might be gleaned from experiences in non-liberal contexts?
