SUMMARY:Challenges and Prospects in the Regulation of Human Reproduction
DESCRIPTION:Medical advances in the field of human reproduction have given rise to important legal questions\, posing serious challenges to its regulation at both domestic and international levels. This panel discusses the challenges and prospects in the regulation of human procreation by looking at a number of pressing issues in the field. First\, the panel approaches the question of posthumous grandparenthood and its impact on the definition of family with a focus on Israel. The attention is then directed to legal questions raised by trans parenthood and surrogacy\, in both domestic settings and before the European Court of Human Rights. Finally\, through the last two presentations\, the panel reflects critically on the regulation of human genome editing and discusses the need for the recognition of new rights in relation to the birth of designer babies.
