SUMMARY:A Transatlantic Dialogue on  Contesting  Populism in  Democratic Constitutionalism and Rule of Law terms
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this transatlantic forum of academics is to examine the challenges that populism poses to liberal democracies whose constitutions are founded on constitutionalism and the rule of law. The forum’s purpose is also to first examine what constitutes populism and whether there are different types of populism including those described as authoritarian populism\, right wing populism and left wing populism. The forum’s purpose is also to examine these challenges in several of the democratic countries in Europe\, North America\, Oxford who can write on how populism is destroying democracy in the world’s largest democracy)  and possibly further afield. We hoe to examine the similarities and differences that populism poses in the unique setting of their own constitutions and the application of both procedural and substantive rule of law principles. Finally\, the forum’s purpose is to see if these various interactions with transatlantic academics can result in furthering broader knowledge of the nature and challenges of populism in democratic societies and can lead to possible more innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to the nature and challenges of populism in democratic societies. It is also hoped that depending on the outcome of the various stages of the forum’s interactions\, one of the key purposes of the group could well be to produce individual research and papers that will ultimately be published in leading academic journal.
